2 Overview of our city
Higashihiroshima City has many specialties that reflect the city’s characteristics.
Saijo Cho sake is famous across Japan. Saijo Cho has delicious water and sake rice (an ingredient of sake). People called master brewers make sake with them. Akitsu Cho sake and Kurose Cho sake are popular as well.
Akitsu Cho oysters grow in the calm sea and are known for their large size and very good taste.
They are harvested the earliest in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Apples are grown in Toyosaka Cho. Apples grow in cold places, so the climate of Toyosaka Cho is well suited to them. Apple farms in Toyosaka Cho are the southernmost apple farms in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Akitsu Cho is the largest producer of loquats in the Chugoku Region. The warm climate of Akitsu Cho is suited to the cultivation of loquats.
Higashihiroshima City has many other specialties, such as potatoes from Akitsu Cho, Egoma from Fukutomi Cho, and grapes and soba from Kochi Cho.
