Sakakiyamahachiman Shrine is located on a small hill overlooking the sea in Akitsu. Within the precincts, there is a bronze statue of Senzaburo Miura, who laid the foundation for sake production in Hiroshima. Matsuo Shrine, which enshrines the god of sake, is also located nearby. Both shrines are deeply related to the production of sake.
Like Saijo, Akitsu has been known as a sake producing town since old times. Two sake breweries still remain today and produce delicious sake.
