Place Names of the Old Ishihata Village

1. Ishihata (stone field)

The locals pronounced it as Bo-ghē-to. It is the name of the community on the eastern side of the above-mentioned Ishihata. Judging by the literal meaning of the Chinese characters, it is the land between the mountains ('yato') featuring a temple ('Bo'), but there is no evidence of a temple or priest's quarters to support this assumption. According to the town history, it was suggested that it might have been near the Otsuki of Shinme Shrine, but there is no evidence or any oral tradition to support that.
This is an area bordered by a stream commonly called Zaku-zaku-babā, which is flowing out of Ona-kubo, and then by the street which runs from the west of Suzuki family's house called 'Teppen' to the Suzuki bean curd shop south of Ome Kaido.
