Its name may be derived from the cedar trees which were lined along kaido, because the area, where Sugiyama Inari is situated at 142 Hakonegasaki, was the intersection of Joshū Kaido and Matsubara Kaido. Although founded in the Kyowa period (1801-1804) and therefore not so old, this place is considered the key area from the Middle Ages because Itabi have been excavated in the neighborhood.
