2. About Kaido (highways or main roads)

This kaido proceeds to the southwest after separating from Nikko Kaido at the middle of Kami-shuku (at the corner of the Mizuho fruit and vegetable market). After proceeding diagonally right at the intersection of Shin-Ome Kaido and National Route 16, the road divides into three.
At the extreme left is Fussa Kaido (of which only a small vestige can still be seen in a thicket just before the crossing with the Hachiko Line). It overlaps with Haijima Kaido (National Route 16), which was shifted to the west due to the Yokota air base expansion, but then separates again at the railway crossing leading to the metropolitan (Tokyo Metropolitan Government) housing. Although for a while coaches travelled this road leading to the Fussa railway station (of the Ome Line) at that time, and many bicycle riders used it later, it became deserted once the Hachiko Line opened.
In addition, the original destination of this road was Ina, by going across Nagata-bashi bridge in Fussa and Daida-bashi bridge over HIrai-gawa River. It is now referred to as Itsukaichi-Tokorozawa Okan, for which Hakonegasaki is the stopover point.
